The growing trend towards spirituality (continued).
We have pointed out that a number of television series this fall have God playing a pivotal role, counseling and guiding the lead characters.
Now comes an article in the November 1st Financial Times entitled: “With God On Their Side; One Football Club Is Turning Matches Into A Religious Experience”. The article contains a large picture of a Romanian soccer player wearing an unusual T-shirt: Jesus (hearts) You 100%.
The owner of the Romanian soccer team, Steaua Bucharest, says: “A victory over Liverpool will not be because [we] are a better team, but because the Romanians have God on their side.” The owner is so convinced of this that he has promised to build a church for every UEFA cup victory. (He has already built three churches and donated to 20 others).
Also noteworthy in this regard is the major networks’ cancellation of sexual-themed shows this fall. Suffering from an apparent drop in young male viewers, Fox has cancelled “Skin” and NBC has canceled “Coupling”.
